Before Surgery

Today is April 23, 2002. Mommy and Daddy took me to St. Louis Children's Hospital again for my eye surgery. We had to be there around 8 in the morning!!

Mommy and Daddy were worried about this surgery!! So was I!!

At about 10:30 the doctors and nurses took me back to the operating room. Dr. Tyschen said that this will take about 2 hours!!

Don't I look cute?!?!

This was me in my hospital scrubs before they took me back for my eye surgery!!

During Surgery
Sitting in the waiting room was really nerve wrecking for Mommy and Daddy!! They sat and watched TV and made a few phone calls.

After about an hour and a half, the nurses called Mommy up to the desk and said that you made it through surgery just fine!!

Procedure:
Dr. Tyschen had to take a long wire and clean out my tear ducts. They were partially closed. Then, since my eyelashes were growing towards my eyes, he had to fix it. He made an incision on the external side of my lower eyelids. He then pulled the outer layer of skin down, rolling the eyelashes forward. He then proceeded to use a "glue" to close up the incision instead of stitches.

It was about 12:30 when Mommy and Daddy were able to join me back in the recovery room.

After Surgery

Mommy and Daddy joined me in the recovery room. It was kind of dark because my eyes were still very sensitive. Mommy and Daddy took turns holding me until I woke up.

I really didn't like the anesthesia that time because I took forever to wake up!!

The nurse came in and put a medicine on my eyes!! They had huge red bags under them from my surgery!! I looked like I hadn't slept in years!!

After awhile, I started to wake up. Mommy and Daddy had the nurse bring in something to eat. Eventually I ate a little bit and started to barely wake up!! The nurses saw that I was going to be ok, so, they released me. Before I could go though, the one nurse gave Mommy braces to put on my arms to stop me from messing with my eyes. I didn't like those braces very much!! They were kind of cute though!! Mommy and Daddy finally got to take me home around 5 in the evening. It was a long and exhausting day!!

Mommy and Daddy were very proud of me!!

You can see the bags under my eyes!!

Don't I look pitiful? My eyes were SO red!!

My Balloon Braces

I really hated my braces!! They kept my arms straight and it had a strap across my back that kept me from scratching my eyes with my braces!! I fussed all of the time with them on!!
